Roll-a-thon Fundraiser to support Japan

As you most likely have heard the headquarters in Japan sustained $90,000 in damage during the large earthquake. They are asking for donations to make repairs. Westminster will be holding a roll-a-thon fundraiser on June 18th,2011 and you (including kids) are encouraged to participate.

Here is a form to sign up people to sponsor you. To practice for the event, do forward rolls without stoping with the help of a partner throwing you with the following technique: zagi handachi katatedori kokyunage zenponage. The attempt is over when you say uncle or if you stop moving.

For those interested in helping without actually rolling… Westminster will accept non-profit donations and send them to Japan via MKF. Please “give till it stings”. =)
Start times of the roll-a-thon are as follows:
Adults: 8:00 am until finished
Older Kids (9 and up): 9:10 am until finished
Younger Kids (up to 8): 10:10 am until finished

No World Camp in 2011

We hope this letter finds you well.

We regret to inform you that it is decided the World Camp 2011 is cancelled.

In Japan except for disaster affected areas, life is back to normal.
And some parts of Headquarters facilities were damaged by the earthquakes as
we informed earlier, however, we are currently working on to fix them.
Tochigi prefecture where Ki Society Headquarters is located is not at all
affected by the nuclear situation, although, we need to carefully observe
the situation from now to the future. Therefore, from May we will resume
regular workshops and lectures at headquarters.

On the other hand, we received feedback from Overseas branches and it seems
many members have anxiety regarding the Nuclear situation. As it will take
about one year to completely stabilize the nuclear situation so taking
considerations of those anxiety regarding nuclear station and health
problems, we have decided that the World Camp 2011 is to be cancelled. We are
very sorry for the instructors and members who had planned to participate the
World Camp 2011. We will do our best to resume World Camp in 2012.

We would like to express our gratitude to all your warm support and
cooperation to Headquarters.
As we are in the difficult situation, We will need to overcome this crisis
with plus Ki.
Thank you.

Sincerely yours,

Shinichi Tohei

Volunteer Fundraiser for the Dojo at the Bolder Boulder 5/30/11

If you haven’t made plans for the Memorial Day weekend yet, here is an event you can add to your schedule:
As in all of the last 8 years I am volunteering to work the BolderBoulder on race day, this year on Monday, May 30th. I am asking for your participation as well since this can be a significant fund raising event for Rocky Mountain Ki Society.
We are looking for 25 hearty individuals to volunteer to join us as race officials, officially “Bandit Security”. You get to spend a morning out in the wonderful weather of early spring with 50,000plus race participants. For this you will receive a new official race tee shirt, Crocks shoes and a snack bag, and have fun, fun, fun…

The meeting time is 6:15 am and you can expect to finish volunteering by around 1:00-2:00 pm. The meeting place is the Frank Shorter Statue at the intersection of Folsom St. and Stadium Drive.

New Sign-up Instructions:
At  http://www.bolderboulder.com/  click “Race Info” > “Volunteer” > “Groups”, to find the registration page with detailed information at http://www.bolderboulder.com/Race_Info/volunteer/volunteergroups.htm
“Click here to sign up for a group volunteer job” to go to https://bbvolunteer.mycustomevent.com/Packages.aspx  where you choose your volunteer package to “add to order” and continue to the registration page. There you’ll enter your information and create a username and login. (The emergency phone# must be different than the home- or cell-number.) These data are saved for all future volunteer activities at the BolderBoulder, so please keep the login info, it will make it easier next year :-) .
You may add a family member to the registration, then confirm your participation. The next screen requests your volunteer details:
Volunteer Type: Group
Password: welcome
Choose your Group: Rocky Mountain Ki – Bandit Patrol (far down at the bottom of the list).
Then your shirt and shoe size.
Confirm, agree and complete the volunteer registration.

Please sign up today and drop me an email at rsmith@fortaikido.net, so I can keep track of head count. Thanks for volunteering for this fun and profitable event. We’re looking forward to seeing you there!
